Attaining Excellent Stage 3 in Fiscal 2008 for the Social and Environmental Green Evaluation System (SEGES)

The Sanden Forest Akagi Branch of Sanden Corporation was certified to have attained Excellent Stage 3 for SEGES 2008 by the SEGES Evaluation Committee, presided over by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and run by Urban Greenery Foundation.
SEGES (Social and Environmental Green Evaluation System) was begun from fiscal 2005 to evaluate and give recognition to the degree of contributions made to society and the environment by private corporations through active initiatives for creating and keeping better living environments, using the Urban Greenery Foundations set standards. SEGES has five levels of recognition, ranging from the Green Stage (recognizing motivation), through Excellent Stages 1 to 3, to the Superlative Stage (attainable through a high level of contribution maintained for many years). The Excellent Stage 3 attained by Sanden Corporation is the highest of the Excellent Stages, recognizing an extremely high level of contributions to society and the environment through green and forested areas.
The evaluative review uses a unique set of standards consisting of eight rules and three principles to enable accurate assessment of the level of contribution achieved. The review of Sanden Corporation was based on these standards and involved interviews about our philosophy towards contributing to society and the environment, our subsequent policies toward developing and maintaining green areas, and our vision for the future, as well as hearings based on documentation. It also involved a tour around the Sanden Forest walkways, all of which eventually took a full day to be completed. The Excellent Stage 3 was attained through the highly favorable evaluation of our efficient and comprehensive management of a wide area of greenery, with ongoing improvements incorporating feedback from the results of environmental monitoring surveys, and the promotion and development of diverse activities including environmental education and chances to experience nature in cooperation with the local community.
The Sanden Forest Akagi Branch will continue to actively protect and create green and forested areas, and by doing so hopes to be certified for the Superlative Stage, which can be acquired by maintaining a high level of contribution to the environment for long term (gaining three consecutive Excellent Stage 3s, the highest level).
