The Sanden EcoFesta Event held in support of the Twenty-fifth National Urban Re-vegetation Gunma Fair

April 30, 2008News Release

On May 10, Sanden Corporation will hold its Sanden EcoFesta at the Sanden Forest Akagi Branch (Kasukawa-machi, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture), as a supporting event for the 25th National Urban Re-vegetation Gunma Fair, “Symphony of Flowers and Greenery 2008”.

The National Urban Re-vegetation Fair was instigated at the behest of the Ministry of Construction (now the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) to raise awareness and spread knowledge regarding urban re-vegetation to create green and affluent urban environments. Festivals celebrating flowers and greenery have been held each year since 1983 in locations all over the country, with the Gunma Fair being the 25th so far. While there are few examples of the grounds and facilities of private companies being used for events on a nation-wide scale like this, the concept of co-existence between industry and nature developed by the Sanden Forest Akagi Branch significantly matches that of National Urban Re-vegetation Fair.

The Sanden Forest Akagi Branch, which hosts the Sanden EcoFesta, has a large set of grounds fourteen times the size of the Tokyo Dome at the foot of Akagi Mountain. The Branch is environmentally designed to achieve a balance of co-existence between industry and the natural environment, incorporating recent natural production processes. Sanden Corporation plans to hold the Sanden EcoFesta on the themes of Interaction with the Environment, opening the Sanden Forest Akagi Branch to the public, showing our appreciation of local businesses and encouraging contact with the natural environment.

Events will include a six-kilometer nature walk around Sanden Forest, a tour of the forest in a bus run on recycled tempura cooking oil, demonstrations of IH cooking heaters, concerts by local artists, street stalls selling yakisoba and so on, and sale of locally-grown vegetables. Gifts will also be given to those who come with bottles of used tempura cooking oil for recycling.

Sanden Corporation hopes to make many opportunities for members of the local community to actively interact with its Sanden Forest Akagi Branch, acclaimed as an rare example of coexistence between nature and industry, and through this to raise awareness towards the environment.
