Announced investment in the Indian market to expand its share in the automotive equipment business

November 1, 2007News Release

Sanden Vikas (India) Private Ltd. (Abbr: SVL; Representative: Masato Terasaki) is a joint venture company between Sanden Corporation and the Vikas Group producing automotive air-conditioner parts in India. India is an expanding market in the automotive industry, and SVL will make investments of 1.5 billion yen including the construction of a new plant to expand its share in the country’s automotive equipment market.

Automotive companies are increasingly sending various requests geared to the Indian market, such as supplying variable-capacity compressors that contribute to mitigate gas emissions through improved fuel efficiency, from our European plants. By constructing a new plant to enable the production of variable-capacity compressors at SVL, compressor sales will expand from the current level of 300,000 units to over one million units (equivalent to approximately 30% of India’s market) by 2011. The new plant will be constructed in New Delhi and operations are planned to begin from early 2009.

India, which is currently following China in its rapid growth, is being positioned by the world’s automotive companies as the global strategic center for compact cars with plans of rolling out compact cars adapted for the Indian market. Along with its heat exchanger business, the expansion in local production of automotive air-conditioner compressors to the one million unit level will allow further global expansion of Sanden’s automotive equipment business, while promoting environmentally friendly operations based on power- and energy- efficient product development.
