Entry into the food business: Launched sales of regular and espresso coffee makers

July 26, 2007News Release

Starting from the fall of 2007, Sanden Corporation will enter the food-related machine business, expanding from the company's existing vending machine business. As a first step, we are launching the sale of a coffee machine (Model: SST-SD1) which makes authentic regular coffee and espresso, and an espresso machine ("GRANDITALIA X1") manufactured in Italy? the home of espresso.

SST-SD1 is a model originally designed by Sanden with particular attention to its novel design and user-friendliness, and is the first in the industry that can sell both regular coffee and espresso from one machine. SST-SD1 is equipped with two sets of a grinder mill and extractor, one for regular coffee and another for espresso. The beans for regular coffee are carefully ground for each cup, and it serves clear and delicious coffee using the paper-filter extracting method. The espresso machine uses a full-fledged coffee extractor that can create nine atmospheres of pressure, believed to make the best espresso. The menu can be set up from a range of ten hot and cold beverage options including regular coffee, espresso, cafe latte, and cappuccino. The menu is easy-to-understand with illustrations that enables use as a self-service vending machine.

"GRANDITALIA X1" is a full-fledged espresso maker manufactured by Italy's Cimbali under the "FAEMA" brand. Sanden Corporation will start import and sales of two models, GRANDITALIA X1MPS and GRANDITALIA X1AS. Common features are the compact size of the machines' 350mm wide body. It carries a new type of boiler that provides hot water at a stable temperature by measuring the pressure inside the boiler and thus controlling the addition of water. This keeps the taste of espresso consistent even during rush hours.

The X1MPS model is a fully automatic machine that can be easily used by anyone. One feature is a milk tube-pump, which, in addition to serving milk in precise and consistent quantities, is hygienic and prevents the milk from going bad by reversing the pump to prevent milk from remaining in the tube.

The X1AS model has a thermal sensor in the steam nozzle that keeps milk at the optimal temperature for making cappuccino and cafe latte.

Sanden Corporation plans to continue strengthening its product development for server machines to improve the added value of their food distribution equipment business.

The coffee machines described above will be on display at "WBC 2007 & SCAJ 2007", a specialty tea & coffee exhibition to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from July 31 through August 2, 2007.
