Sanden Manufacturing Europe S.A.S (SME) (President: Toshio Nakajima), an overseas affiliated company of Sanden
Corporation, won second place of the “Trophees des technologies economes et propres” (Clean and economical
technology award) from French ADEME (Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maitrise de l'Energie) at an International
Trade Fair related to industrial environment (POLLUTEC) held in Lyon, France on November 28, 2006.
This award appraises SME’s system setting for treatment of oil, component rinse water, and cast waste
liquid, which are used for component processing and cutting. This processing system is characterized by a method
of combining vacuum aerification and biological treatment, and it reduces discharged water drained away from
plants for re-processing by about 85 percent. By this system, SME has succeeded in eliminating about 33,000 km
of transportation by truck and recycling at other machinery manufacturing sites has been made possible.
Attending the award ceremony were senators, the mayor of Lyon city, the head of the regional legislature, the
Brazilian state minister of the environment, and a trophy was conferred to Nakajima of SME by Nelly Olin, Ministre
de l’Ecologie et du Developpement Durable (comparable to the Environment Agency of Japan).
