"Sanden Center Concept": The idea to revitalize the Isesaki area, an inauguration site, to a new technology research and development base

November 6, 2006News Release

Sanden Corporation decided to re-develop Kotobuki-cho, Isesaki-shi, Gunma Prefecture, where our business originally started, and to use it as a new technology research & development base.

Since the functions of manufacturing vender machines and commercial store system devices were transferred from the Kotobuki area encompassing, the Technology Center of the Gunma Headquarters, and the old Kotobuki Plant, to Akagi Plant in Kasukawa-machi, Maebashi-shi, Gunma in April 2002, the old plant portions in the Kotobuki area have been leased to an affiliated company which manufactures large-scale showcases. We resolved this year that this large-scale showcase producing function would also be taken over by the Akagi Plant, to further enhance productivity as a whole.

With the foregoing decisions, we have explored ways to re-develop the Kotobuki area, including a plan to sell off the area from viewpoints of efficient use of assets and reconstruction of business bases. As a result, we concluded that a direction to move forward is to utilize the Kotobuki area as a base for fostering new technologies, human resources, and culture, and to send out fruits of these attempts to the world. The conclusion is based on the idea that this inauguration site of our company is the original point from where it has expanded its businesses globally.

The total land size of this Akagi area is about 18,000 tsubo (59,400m2). The whole area will be newly named "Sanden Global Center" (to be commonly known as "Sanden Center"), in the core part of which a Technology Development Center will be constructed. This is a concept of constructing a mother (primary) base there. The idea is that research and development for new technologies and products will be performed mainly in Japan, and its results will be spread out to our group companies operating all over the world amid the global competitions are increasingly intensifying.

Other than the foregoing, a Culture Museum which will disseminate corporate culture focusing on global challenge and reformation, and a History Museum which will store and display materials related to our company history since its inauguration, and will also have a function of receiving guests, are planned to be constructed in this Sanden Center as well. As mentioned above, this "Sanden Center Concept" is an idea to revitalize the site of the inauguration, incorporating three factors, including technology, culture, and history.

To this end, some part of an idle lot will be sold and the proceeds of such a sale will be used for re-investment, and superannuated buildings will be demolished, and usable old buildings will be refurbished. At any rate, a detailed and concrete plan to realize this Sanden Center Concept, including the foregoing, will be formulated soon.
