Sanden Corporation has introduced a system by which outside financial planners will provide employees with individual advice on how to manage investment of their defined-contribution pension fund (the Japanese version of a 401k).
After Sanden adopted a defined-contribution pension plan in 2002, it concluded that it is necessary to provide employees with opportunities to receive individual advice from professional financial planners because of the employees sophisticated knowledge and varied of inquiries concerning fund management. This system was implemented this year, as one item on what we call a "cafeteria plan".
A feature of this system is that employees can select methods of investment through face-to-face or telephone consultations with financial planners, or via PCs equipped with teleconferencing functions. This is also available to employees in rural areas and overseas.
Sanden will improve the system by continuing training sessions and by other means.
