Establishment of a new plant to produce automotive air-conditioners in Tianjin, China

September 2, 2005

Sanden Corporation will construct a ¥1-billion plant near its existing plant in Tianjin, to respond to increasing demand from the sharply growing automobile markets in China.

Tianjin Sanden Automotive air-Conditioning, located in the city of Tianjin, produced 150,000 air-conditioner units in 2004, and so has exceeded its maximum production capacity. The new plant will have area of 30,000m2 and a yearly production capacity of 400,000 units, using a two-shift working system. It plans to produce 250,000 units in 2006, to meet additional demand increases.

Air-conditioners produced there will initially be sold to First Automobile Works (a Chinese automobile maker), in Tianjin, but later they will be also delivered to Japan-oriented manufacturers, beginning in 2006. The new plant will increase its local employees to 250–300, including engineers, in line with the expansion of its production capacity.

Sanden will continue to enhance product quality with the expansion of production capacity, expecting growth of the automobile equipment industry in China, and will improve its structure in response to demand increases from Chinese auto makers, and from auto makers elsewhere in Asia and in the US.
